What is Vinyasa Krama?
Yoga is a proven methodology supported by empirical wisdom and a rapidly increasing body of scientific evidence to corroborate much of what many seasoned yoga practitioners know to be true through their own experience. Science shows that the brain and the body (soma) are integrally connected, and the vitality and health of both defined and enhanced by their ‘plasticity.’ Yoga practice is essentially a therapeutic dialogue between the mind and the body, comprised of somatics—placing the attention (the mind) within the body to direct, inform and refine very specific and conscious movements and actions, and vinyasa krama—or the art of wise sequencing, which ultimately determines our overall experience of a given practice, as well as the extent to which it addresses (or neglects) our individual needs and capacities, and moves us in the direction of enlightened being and enlightened living.
My style of teaching is trauma-informed and uses discerning verbal cues to guide the practitioner through a wisely-sequenced, exploratory yoga practice that serves to keep the mind yoked with the body as it integrates the innate intelligence of each posture. Each pose follows from the previous one in a synergy of movement, bandhas (gathering of awareness and physical action in a specific location in the body as a way to harness energy) and breath, energetically sequenced to balance and best meet the needs of body, mind, soul and spirit. Bringing the body, breath and attention to rest in quiet and stillness serves to complete the experience and ground you within your own, sweet Self. All levels welcome.
