Lara
Lara Wilson established Be Well Be Here, a non-profit organization, after she successfully completed stage III breast cancer treatment with the help of an optimistic outlook, top-notch doctors at Dana Farber, a team of holistic practitioners, a community of over 100 caring friends, a deep connection with nature, and a dedicated 30-year meditation practice. During treatment, Lara studied mindfulness with Ellen Langer and associates at Harvard, where she learned from data-driven research how a powerful mind/body connection along with integrative therapies can promote improved health. Crediting her decades of mindfulness practice for her own positive health outcome, Lara began incorporating mindful healing modalities in her teaching, tutoring, and writing. Lara’s unique story prompted both integrative and western medicine doctors to write about her case, and her focus on mindfulness as a way of life and a path to wellness was featured in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine.
With a master’s degree in English & American Literature, Lara completed a graduate program in mindfulness studies to deepen her understanding of contemplative practices. She and her team at Be Well Be Here continually study the work of mindfulness teachers such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Sharon Salzberg, Jospeh Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, Christina Feldman, Tara Brach, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Gregory Kramer, Andrew Olendski, and Pema Chodron, among others. These experiences enable teachers at Be Well Be Here to compassionately meet clients of all backgrounds where they are, and collaboratively create new modes of expression and self-care that enhance wellness of mind, body and spirit.
