Practice & Venture

Welcome to the Yoga Mandala Community!

I co-founded Yoga Mandala in 2001 with the mission to make the potent teachings and practices of yoga accessible to folks from all walks of life and to be a more present parent and spouse. Yoga Mandala has evolved from being a sweet community yoga studio for seventeen solid years in the town where I raised my children to a now itinerant School of Self-Mastery through yoga. With over two decades of dedicated yoga practice and experience in the lineage of Sri T. Krishnamacharya to call my own, Yoga Mandala offers a unique style of trauma-informed teaching, Vinyasa Krama Yoga, based in the art of intelligently sequencing postures and moving breath that makes sense to the practitioner’s body.

Many of us come to yoga by way of asana, the postural practice, a way to address our health concerns, to meet our fitness goals, to gain physical strength and flexibility. Maybe it is that we show up because we need space to breathe, to release the stresses of life, to find ourselves, to rediscover community. Ultimately, the place of practice is our very own heart, or bhava, a place of mindful intent. The one thing we all have in common is our humanity. On some level each of us participates in our own ‘hero’s journey’ to remember who we are, what we are, and where we are on this path of life. What makes yoga such a powerful practice is that we get to step outside of the habitual–our habitual environment and relationships, our habitual happenings and doings, and our habitual days and nights–into the freedom of begin fresh, and merely human, for a time, together.

Yoga Mandala designs and leads visionary, out-of-this-world collaborative programs, teacher trainings–whether you actually want to be a yoga teacher or not–and ventures that awaken you to your natural way of being and bring you home to your own heart. Classes and trainings teach and inspire you to take what you learn off the mat into your daily life; our collaborative ventures are always combined with the natural element as nature, somatic wellness and human connection are transformational tools in the realm of preventative well being and the practice of saumanasya, living happy. Carving out time and space for yourself, for self-practice, for ritual well being, is a statement of self-worth.

You are deserving of EVERYTHING you want for yourself. We are here to support you on your journey, to serve you as you walk your path. Together, we are a mandala of practitioners and friends who come together to practice and learn from each other. We feel what it’s like to breathe, to appreciate the gift of the physical body and the joy of movement, and to experience moments of stillness and equanimity within ourselves, in community. The doorway to practice is always open, to anyone and everyone, and the path of self-mastery in constant evolution.

Peace & Love,
